A. Mostly negative. Blame Marimar on the phenomenon. Television should be informative and entertaining. Philippine television is 90% entertainment, 10% information/education/val ues. This influx of Asian telenovelas adds to the escapist tendencies of the Filipinos and taking their minds away from the more serious problems of the nation. Aside from our own telenovelas which are numerous I have lost count, we have to contend with these Asian series as well. This influx also manifests that the TV industry is in dire need of original material and ideas that they have to fill in the gap before the prime time slots (which are still filled with telenovelas! aaargh!). And the fact that it's ruled by the ratings game. I long for that time… [cont.]

Where can I find tv shows in different languages on the internet?
Q. I'm trying to learn Tagalog and I can't find tv shows in Tagalog. I looked on Youtube and searched numerous times. I watch Project Runway Philippines but it's mostly English and uses different Philippine dialects. I've also seen clips of Pinoy Big Brother but I can't find full episodes. Can someone please let me know if there's a website that has TV shows in Tagalog.

Our media, the tv and the movies, discriminate our own people. Do you agree?
Q. TV shows, movies, usually portray ordinary-looking Pinoys as the butt of jokes, portraying them as ugly, as source of comedic material. If you come to think of it, these are the typical face we see and bump to everyday, on the streets, marketplace, malls, etc.--pinoy-looking and brown-skinned. In short, the media appears to discriminate and belittle the typical PINOY. No wonder, whitening products are being sold like crazy.
