From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Oceania (sometimes Oceanica) is a geographical, often geopolitical, region consisting of numerous lands—mostly islands in the Pacific Ocean and vicinity. The term "Oceania" was coined in 1831 by French explorer Dumont d'Urville. The term is used today in many languages to define one of the continents and is one of eight terrestrial ecozones. The boundaries of Oceania are defined in a number of ways. Most definitions recognize parts of Australasia such as Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea, and all or part of the Malay Archipelago as being parts of Oceania. Ethnologically, the islands that are included in Oceania are divided into the subregions of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. From Wikipedia under the

Isolation over long periods of time, different solutions for the same problems. Common? Well men basically have the the same half dozen needs no matter where they are. A need for cooperative agriculture (usually water works) is going to result in a more advanced government structure. Lack of vital resources results in some sort of trade network. I think Australia were right to move into the asia groups, because how unfair is it when you beat every team in your world cup qualifying group, and come top of the group.. only to have to go into a play off versus the fourth or fifth place in the south american qualifiers? it is very unfair to teams in the oceania group.. and the top 3 or 4 teams qualify straight away in the asia group.. Australia qualified top of their group for the 2002 world cup and had to play uruguay in a play off, I think uruguay won 3-2.. and australia were out...
