In religion, salvation is the concept that God or other Higher Power, as part of Divine Providence, saves humanity from spiritual death or Eternal Damnation by providing for them an eternal life (cf. afterlife). The world's religions agree that humanity needs salvation from its present condition. However, they hold irreconcilable positions on what it means from an eternal perspective to become saved, the actual way to get saved, and the resources needed to attain salvation.

The theological study of salvation is called soteriology. It covers the means by which salvation is effected or achieved, and its results. Salvation may also be called "deliverance" or "redemption" from sin and its effects.

Some religions claim that salvation can be attained by using only inner human resources such as meditation, accumulation of wisdom, asceticism, rituals, or good deeds. Other religions teach that humans can be saved only through the grace granted by an external personal agent (God, a bodhisattva, an avatar, etc.) One’s duty is to recognize the impossibility of being saved by one's own efforts, and therefore accept grace unconditionally.

The pantheistic religions of the East regard salvation as an impersonal merging with the Absolute. In contrast, the three largest monotheistic religions of the world─Judaism, Christianity and Islam─associate salvation with freedom from the bondage of sin and the reestablishment of personal communication with the creator. There are some basic differences among those monotheistic religions on how sin is to be overcome by humans, on the identity of Jesus Christ and the role he plays in salvation, and what one's attitude toward him should be.

When living values are sinking all around, don't you think that compulsory moral teachings a must in schools?
Q. Some observations! At the parents-teachers meeting an innocent soul made a sincere suggestion. "Madam, let this school conduct moral classes for the benefit of our Children". Madam went into a rage. "We do not teach what we do not practice". Hefty donations, and exploitation rule the roost in educational institutions. Morals do not count to those who worship the cash demon. Some private management schools that impart such lessons go by their religions and teach that salvation is their exclusive monopoly. Governments should make moral studies mandatory with a defined curriculum like any other subjects? The enlightened teachings of all religions and the life of great souls should be included in the syllabi. Let our country be… [cont.]

A. I dont feel that our kids moral judgement should be the responsibility of our schools, moral education should begin even before school age and should be done in the home. too many bad parents nowadays blame the governments, social services and schools for the kids seemingly total lack of respect and discipline. Its time some of the parent were mayb sent on a course on how to instill moral ethics into their kids, and mayb even learn something themselves at the same time

Why would God chose priests that molest children?
Q. The message of the Book of Numbers is unmistakeably clear. Priests are specifically chosen by God. This has nothing to do with desire or ability. God s choice alone is determinative. Even among those closest to liturgical service (the Levites), the choice to be a priest is not theirs but the Lord s. Moreover, the reason there is a priesthood in the first place is that God desires a portion of the people to be in an exclusive relationship with Himself in order to bring salvation to all by offering atonement for sin. Properly understood, a special priesthood chosen "God knows how by God knows whom" is precisely what we must cherish, honor and support. If this is in fact the belief, why would God chose some of these sick s.o.b.s to be in… [cont.]

Do you believe "God Bless America" should be sung in baseball games permanently?
Q. 1. Imposing your religion onto others for the sake of your own salvation (or others) is not nice. 2. Do you really think God, the creator of the universe (and whatever else is out there) should give tiny America a special blessing? Personally, I wouldn't impose on our (mine and God's) relationship. I'm sure God's got thougher jobs to do...like say, individuals? There's lot's of us. 3. It came out of a "bad time". I honor those brave men and women who lost their lives September 11th but the song (during baseball games) just reminds me of the fear President Bush pushed down our throats. [Quoting Al Gore here] "promoting the idea that freedom and security are exclusive to eachother, that you can have one only to the extent that you've… [cont.]

A. Since when is 'God Bless America' about the war?!?! Get off your podium. Sometimes, a song is just a song. The U.S. was founded by Christian men; logic would dictate that many of our national songs would feature the Christian God. And why shouldn't he give us our own special blessing? The Brits have "God save the Queen", and I'm sure every Christian country has its own God-based little anecdote. What's the big deal? Why make it over such a little thing? Don't like the song? DON'T SING IT. EDIT: One, I never said this country should be a Christian country. I just pointed out that this country was founded by Christian men, on Christian ideals. They're not bad ideals, and most of them are in keeping with other religions--like, "Do [cont.]
